Notes: Opuscular source: Extract of letter from Mr Hard, Trinidad, Nov 9, 1896. From Mr Hart, I have lately had an opportunity of examining seeds of our Omphalea. Indications are such as point out it is not the diandra which it has long been refered to as. C, apsule of 3.5 ins in diam. Soft and fleshy fibrous coating and large quantity of starcy pulp weighing around a single seed 31.175 grammes. The seed is a purgative. I ate part of it at about 4 o'clock and I felt its effect more seriously after another at, 7pm, but without any pain. in fact I should call it a fluent medicine. Certainly a quick and painless purgative. It would probably be worth cultivating as a by product in the tropics and will grow on waste sands. It covers forest growth with lianas 3-, 400 ft in length.
