Notes: Label source: This tree is far more abundant than B tavairi but both trees have the important characteristic of gradually dominating the forest where they occur. The timber of tawa is light brown in colour, rather hard, straight grained but somewhat br, ittle. A serious defect is the difficulty with which nails can be driven into the wood. It is used extensively for wood pulp manufacture. North Island. Abundant in forests throughout South Island. Common in forests at Nelson and Marlborough and in va, rious localities on the shores of Cook Strait.
