Notes: Opuscular source: The Nursery, Dabadia, Trinidad. To Mr J.M. Hillier. Dear Sir, I have dispatched to you by the mail on the 24th of this month a sample of the root Andropogon muricatus (which by Grisebach is placed in the genus Vetivera) this latin name, is that which the Creoles and Creolised Spanish call it. The economic guide of the gardens gives its name as Khus Khus. The people here use it for storing with clothes stored away and not in use, and when they come out, the clothes smell quite fresh. The, y also mix it with warm water and use as a smelling invigorator. I would be pleased if you could oblige me with particulars as to disposal of same and if there is any demand for it. Trusting that Kew Gardens are not suffering any more from the deprivation, s of the suffragettes. Trusting you`ll be able to oblige me. I remain Sir, yours faithfully, Cyril Warren (Late Kewite) 19.06.1913. From Lewis & Peat, 6 Mincing Lane London, 22/07/1913 To Masters Hillier Esq. Kew Gardens. Re Khus Khus root, referring to y, our ?? of the 12th inst., kindly note we have shown your sample of 'Trinidad' to several of our buyers and gather that the value is about 7 shillings or 8 shillings per cwt., possibly rather over as it is free from changes? . We cannot however recommend c, onsignments of this article.
